Dan Hartenstein
Founder, ECS Wealth Strategies
Charter Instructor, Government Employee Benefit Institute
A Legacy of Financial Strategy
Dan followed in his father’s footsteps, beginning his career in 1999 by serving high-income health professionals. His early focus was on retirement plan design, tax planning, asset protection, and charitable giving helping clients preserve more of what they earned and build lasting wealth.
A Shift Toward Service
In 2009, Dan noticed a trend: doctors and dentists from federal medical centers like Tripler Army, the VA, and Navy Medical Services were struggling with their benefits. Complex systems and widespread misinformation made retirement planning even more challenging for federal employees. Dan committed to helping them, becoming a Notary Public and diving into specialized training to master federal benefit systems.
Building GEBI and a Better Future
In 2010, Dan co-founded the Government Employee Benefit Institute (GEBI) to help federal workers navigate retirement with clarity. Over the next nine years, he and his team educated and guided over 1,000 federal employees. GEBI became a preferred vendor for the Honolulu Pacific Federal Executive Board and received the BBB’s prestigious Torch Award for Ethics in 2016.
Community Roots and Leadership
Born and raised in Oahu, Dan graduated from Punahou School and earned honors at Webster University’s Dutch campus in Leiden, studying International Business and Relations. He’s been active in his community through Rotary Club recognition, board memberships, and school volunteering. He’s also helped lead charitable efforts including endowments for healthcare foundations and environmental restoration.
